COURSE DESCRIPTION AND PHILOSOPHY
  (3) Fundamentals of formal mathematics emphasizing mathematical writing 
  and types of formal proof. Includes significant coverage of topics in 
  logic, set theory and number theory. Prerequisite: MATH 115.

EVALUATION
  Homework Assignments (25%)
    Problems from the course text and given in class will be regularly 
    assigned, evaluated and scores recorded.
  Midterm Exams (Two of them, each worth 25%) 
    One exam will be given about 6 weeks into the course and another will 
    be given about 2 weeks before the end of the course.  The first exam 
    covers course content since the beginning of the semester.  The second 
    exam covers course content since the first exam.
  Final Exam (25%) -- date/time in current class schedule
    This exam is COMPREHENSIVE.  So, any course content from the entire 
    semester is fair game.   
  Grades
    A: 93 -     A-: 90 - 92, B+: 87 - 89, B: 83 - 86, B-: 80 - 82
    C+:77 - 79, C : 73 - 76, C-: 70 - 72, D+:67 - 69, D : 63 - 66
    D-:60 - 62, F :    - 59

LATE POLICY
  Only under TRULY EXTRAORDINARY circumstances will late work be 
  accepted or makeup exams be given!!  Proof WILL be demanded.  

  A couple of things that are NOT truly extraordinary:
  (1) Overlooking/forgetting a date.
  (2) Not advising me immediately upon discovering a problem (i.e. 
      If you know there will be a problem and I don't hear about 
      it immediately so that I can advise you, then there is NO CHANCE 
      of any accommodation)

  All assignment due dates and exam dates will be announced in class 
  at least 4 days in advance (usually a week).  It is your responsibility 
  to make note of these dates and comply.   
    
UNIVERSITY POLICIES
  Class Cancellations
    When weather conditions are dangerous, students will be informed via 
    the media about class cancellations.  Please DO NOT call public safety. 
    Phone lines need to be open for emergencies.
  Accommodation of Religious Belief
    Students' sincerely held religious beliefs shall be reasonably 
    accommodated with respect to scheduling all examinations and other 
    academic requirements.
  Disabilities Accommodation
    Adaptations of methods, materials or testing may be made to accommodate 
    educational participation.  Students must inform their instructors at
